In 2012, Trend Micro expanded its smart protection network to Big Data Analytics. Big data analytics allow the network to use behavior-based identification methods to identify new security threats. The network also combines in-the-cloud technologies with other customer-based antivirus technologies to reduce reliance on traditional type file downloads on arrival. Threat information from Trend Micro`s smart protection network is provided in real time in the company`s security software portfolio.
