This was the hope that the Biarritz summit could bring an agreement to stem Iran`s nuclear and missile program, its support for terrorism in the Middle East, its support for those attacking Israel and Yemen, and the confiscation of oil tankers by the Revolutionary Guards in the Strait of Hormuz. In return, this could lead to relief from U.S. sanctions against Iran and reduce the likelihood of Iran going through a major financial crisis that could spread to vulnerable countries like Turkey next door. A deal would also resolve the great disagreement between the US and Europe over Trump`s decision to withdraw from the previous nuclear deal with Iran. In this context, how can the Heads of State and Government in Biarritz make the most of the upcoming G7 summit and reach an agreement amid discord? In an article that was the result of our participation in the Think 7 Summit 2018 (a meeting of researchers from G7 countries convened before the G7 Summit in Charlevoix), we identified two important features of the G7 that make them better able than other international institutions to address new and cross-cutting topics: it is the informality and equality of its members, with regard to social, economic and political values….
